Walter Berry

Walter Berry, 85, of Washington passed away Friday, April 27, 2018.

He was the beloved husband of Jane A. Berry for 64 years.

Born July 30, 1933, he was a son of the late Cecil Frances and Catherine Minerva Berry.

He was the loving father of Brian (Lea Ann) Berry and Brad (Sharon) Berry, and dear brother of the late Shirley Mae Goslin, Phyllis Ann Briggs and Ronald Preston.

Walter was a graduate of Washington High school, where he was a member of the band as a drum major.

Shortly after high school, he was drafted during the Korean War.

He attended the Military Band School in Fort Knox, Ky., where he was a member of the Second Army Band. He also attended school in Italy, Switzerland and England.

Walter was a supporter of the Royal Crusader Drummer and Bugle Corps in Finleyville for eight to nine years, which was ranked nationally in the United States.

He was a proud mason shriner at Washington Lodge 374. He was on the Board of Trustees at First United Methodist Church.

He retired in 1999.

Most of all, he enjoyed spending time with his family. He started his two sons off early with music, one playing the drums and the other playing the tuba.

A celebration of life will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 5, in First United Methodist Church, 29 North College Street, Washington, PA 15301, 724-222-2520.
