Virgil Ernest Simmons
Virgil Ernest Simmons, 75, of Waynesburg, passed away Sunday, May 13, 2018, in Rolling Meadows Nursing and Rehabilitation, Waynesburg.
Virgil was born September 18, 1942, in Titusville, Fla., a son of the late Marshall and Velma Zimmerman Simmons.
He graduated from Mt. Morris High School in 1962. He then became a certified electrician.
On July 29, 1967, he married the late Nancy Ann Piatt.
Left to cherish his memory are two daughters, Valerie (H. Scott) Gapen and Victoria Murray; three grandsons, H. Scott Gapen II, Michael T. Gapen and Jared D. Murray; and a special lady friend, Ruth Ann McCollum.
Virgil was preceded in death by two older brothers, Vaughn and Irvin Simmons; two nieces, Melissa George and Jane Adams; and two nephews, Douglas Piatt and Robert Simmons.
He was a member of the local Free Masons Lodge 153. He worked for West Virginia Department of Energy. He later worked as the maintenance supervisor at Greene County Vo-Tech, where he also taught building maintenance.
Virgil owned and operated his own business, After 4 Maintenance, for many years. He and his girlfriend, Ruth Ann, were active members of WWJD Christian Center. He enjoyed spending time with friends at Hardee’s and McDonald’s.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, May 26, in WWJD Christian Center, 313 Jennings Avenue, Waynesburg.
