Ralph Anthony Alterio

Ralph Anthony Alterio, 86, a lifelong resident of Canonsburg, passed away unexpectedly Tuesday, May 29, 2018, in West Penn Hospital, Pittsburgh.

He was born April 14, 1932, in Canonsburg, a son of the late John and Giacomina Livolsi Alterio.

He was a graduate of Canonsburg High School and attended Duquesne University in Pittsburgh.

Mr. Alterio was a lifelong member of St. Patrick Roman Catholic Church, Canonsburg. He was a devout Catholic, who daily watched Mass on TV and prayed the rosary.

He frequented Canonsburg Senior Center and was a dedicated brother who visited his sister and best friend every day. Mr. Alterio was an avid Pittsburgh sports fan, enjoying the Pirates, Steelers and Penguins.

Above all and most importantly, he loved his faith and family.

Mr. Alterio had a very friendly and jovial disposition and enjoyed conversing with his many friends and family members.

Mr. Alterio was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving in Japan as a military policeman during the Korean conflict.

On September 1, 1958, in St. Patrick Roman Catholic Church, Canonsburg, he married Anita Virginia Teatino, who passed away August 3, 2013. They celebrated 54 years of marriage together.

McGraw-Edison Corp. in Canonsburg employed him as a winder. Mr. Alterio, along with his brother-in-law, Anthony Barbosky, co-owned Barbee’s meat market in Bridgeville.

Surviving are two daughters, Marianne (Darryl) Wargo and Monica (Robert) Durbin, both of Canonsburg; sister Mary Ann Barbosky of Canonsburg; two brothers-in-law, Vincent (Joann) Teatino of Imperial and Steve (Judy) Tetino of Canonsburg; and many nieces and nephews.

Deceased, in addition to his wife, are brother-in-law Jack (Stephanie) Teatino; sister-in-law Connie Teatino; sister-in-law Theresa (Roy) Porter; and brother-in-law Anthony Barbosky.

Friends will be received from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday in Mario L. DeAngelo Funeral Home, 194 East College Street, Canonsburg, where departing prayers will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, June 2. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 10:30 a.m. in St. Patrick Roman Catholic Church, 317 West Pike Street, Canonsburg. Interment will be held privately at a later date in National Cemetery of the Alleghenies, Cecil Township.
