Charles E. Barrickman
Charles E. Barrickman, 97, of Waynesburg, died at 10:30 a.m. Sunday, October 7, 2018, in Rolling Meadows Nursing Home, Waynesburg.
He was born Sunday, August 28, 1921, in Monongalia County, W.Va. He was a son of the late Michael Barrickman and Anna Calvert Barrickman. Mr. Barrickman spent his entire life in Greene County.
Mr. Barrickman was a member of United Mine Workers Local 2321, District 4. He was a graduate of Mt. Morris High School, Class of 1941, and was a veteran, having served with the U.S. Army during WWII.
He worked for 33 1/2 years as a coal miner. He first worked for Hillman Coal and Coke in Poland. He later worked for McCarthney Coal Co. in Dilliner, and then for Artwright Coal at the Bunker Mine in West Virginia. He retired from Robena, U.S. Steel Company in 1984 as a machine operator.
His wife, Anna Catharina Van Trier Barrickman, whom he married January 26, 1946, died November 16, 1999.
Surviving is his caretaker and nephew, Mike Eddy of Mt. Morris, as well as several other nieces and nephews.
Deceased are four sisters, Nellie Ritter, Belle Pyles, Ethel Snyder, and Anna Eddy and a brother, Woodrow Barrickman.
Friends will be received from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday in Milliken and Throckmorton Funeral Home Inc., Daryl L. Throckmorton, owner/director, 324 Mt. Morris Road, P.O. Box 478, Mt. Morris, where services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, October 10, with the Rev. William Parker officiating. Burial will be held in Cedar Grove Cemetery, Mt. Morris.
