Emma Jean Freil
Emma Jean Freil, 97, of Asbury Heights, Mt. Lebanon, formerly Canonsburg, passed away Monday, October 8, 2018.
She was born July 2, 1921, in Houston, a daughter of Oscar and Jenny Shepard Cowan.
Mrs. Freil was a 1939 graduate of Canonsburg High School.
She worked as head teller for the former Western Pennsylvania National Bank and Equibank of Houston.
Emma Jean was a longtime member of First United Methodist Church in Canonsburg, where she was a choir member for many years.
She was an avid reader and enjoyed playing bridge, sewing, knitting, playing the piano and singing.
On July 26, 1942, she married Glenn A. Freil, who passed away August 28, 2000.
She is survived by a son, Scott Freil and wife Charlotte of Bridgeville; seven grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
Deceased, in addition to her husband and parents, are daughter Glenda Warehimer; sister Francis Herron; and three brothers, Oscar Jr., George and Bill Cowan.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, October 20, in First United Methodist Church, 161 West Pike Street, Canonsburg, PA 15317, with the Rev. Debra Rogosky officiating. Arrangements are entrusted to McIlvaine-Speakman Funeral Home Ltd., Robert K. McIlvaine, owner/supervisor, 27 Cherry Avenue, Houston, PA 15342.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be made to Asbury Foundation, 700 Bower Hill Road, Pittsburgh, PA 15243, or First United Methodist Church, 161 West Pike Street, Canonsburg, PA 15317.
