Janet E. Travis
Lt. Col. Janet E. Travis, U.S. Air Force, retired, age 89, of San Antonio, Texas, passed away Tuesday, October 23, 2018.
She was born in Pennsylvania to Arth Amer and Rebecca McKowen Ames. Janet was a graduate of Bentleyville High School and South Side Hospital School of Nursing in Pittsburgh. Immediately upon graduation, Janet proudly served her country as a pediatric nurse in the U.S. Air Force during Korean and Vietnam wars. She retired from the Air Force in 1971 at Lackland Air Force Base and continued to reside in San Antonio.
Janet was preceded in death by her parents and her brothers, James Ames and David Ames. She is survived by her brothers, Harrold Ames and Theodore Ames; sisters Nancy Blakeway, Barbara Ciuca and Mary Lynda Tarorick; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, October 30, with a service to follow at 12:15 p.m. in Porter Loring on McCullough. Interment will follow in Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery.
