Stephen Yevins, 93, of Washington, died Sunday, October 28, 2018, in Presbyterian SeniorCare, Washington.
He was born December 21, 1924, in Avella, a son of the late George Yevins and Mary Salesi Yevins.
Stephen was a graduate of Avella High School and worked for National Steel – Weirton Works for 35 years. He was very proud of the fact he worked his way up at Weirton Steel to crane operator, a job that required a great amount of skill.
Stephen dearly loved his wife and family and was happy he could put all of his children through college. He was a very well-read man and could discuss subjects ranging from automobiles to sports to history to politics. He enjoyed talking to people, doing crossword puzzles, playing golf with his brothers-in-law and watching his grandchildren’s sporting events.
The Pittsburgh Pirates and Steelers were his favorite sports teams, but he was never shy to criticize them if he didn’t like the way they played on the field.
Stephen was a member of Immaculate Conception Roman Catholic Church, Washington.
He will be deeply missed by his family.
On April 26, 1952, he married Mary Jane Sonson, who survives.
Also surviving are two sons, James Yevins of Houston and Vincent (Missy) Yevins of Washington; a daughter, Stephanie (Kent) Hughes of Alexandria, Va.; seven grandchildren, Aleea, Jared, Brady, Stephen, Meredith, Matthew and Erin; and four great-grandchildren, Jaymeson, Amelia, Aleena and William.
Deceased are a sister, Mary Russell, and daughter-in-law, Lee Ann Yevins.
