Betty Jane Waterman
Betty Jane Waterman, 91, of Carmichaels, died at 3:35 p.m. Sunday, September 2, 2018, in Ruby Memorial Hospital, Morgantown, W.Va.
She was born October 11, 1926, in Taylorville, Ill., a daughter of the late Rudolph and Marie Smeltzer Melzer.
Mrs. Waterman was a graduate of Taylorville High School and resided in Carmichaels since 1958.
She was a member of Greene Valley Presbyterian Church in Carmichaels, where she was a member of the Woman in the Church, taught Sunday school and vacation bible school for over 50 years, and was the director of Christian education. Mrs. Waterman was instrumental in leading many children to accept Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior. She was a past worthy matron of the former Ideal Chapter No. 213 OES in Masontown, and at the time of her death, a member of Uniontown Chapter No. 263 OES.
Mrs. Waterman was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. On March 30, 1947 she married William E. Waterman, who died June 8, 1986.
Surviving are a son, Carl W. Waterman and wife Linda of Stockbridge, Ga.; three grandchildren, Malichi Waterman and wife Krista, Erik Waterman and wife Sandra, and Brendan Waterman and wife Leybel; five great-grandchildren, Jackson, John, Jacob, Christopher and William; a sister, Rudolphine Pranske of Las Vegas, Nev.; three sisters-in-law, LaVerne Melzer, Helen Melzer and Marian Melzer; several nieces and nephews; and a precious friend, Jessica Frederick Nicklow of Hopwood.
Deceased are four brothers, Oscar Melzer, Monroe Melzer, Gus Melzer and Rudolph Melzer, and a sister, Ramona Leitschuh.
Family and friends are welcome from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday in Yoskovich Funeral Home, 724-966-5500, Martin J. Yoskovich, director, 300 South Vine Street (Route 88), Carmichaels. The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, September 6, in Greene Valley Presbyterian Church, 104 East Greene Street, Carmichaels, with the Rev. P. Keith Larson and the Rev. Harold O. Kelley officiating. Uniontown Chapter No. 263 OES will conduct a memorial service at 7 p.m. Wednesday in the funeral home. A graveside service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, September 8, in Oak Hill Cemetery, Taylorville, Ill.
