“A jewel was stripped of its gift wrap and set free to radiate in God’s glory for eternal life.”

Bette Mae Burrows Zaney, 89, of Cuddy, passed Monday, August 27, 2018, due to kidney complications.

She was born November 25, 1928, in Canonsburg, a daughter of the late Harry and Katherine Ehle Burrows.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, Norman H. Zaney Sr.; her beloved son, Norman H. Zaney Jr.; three brothers, George Opeka, Bill Opeka and Carl Opeka; and three sisters, Delores Opeka, Mary Burrows Slogis and Genevieve Burrows Schallenberger.

Bette was a homemaker and an active member of Gladden United Presbyterian Church. She loved the sun and traveling and was a big fan of Sanibel, Fla., and Aruba. Most of all, Bette was the biggest fan of her children: Dennis H. Zaney (Debbie) of Cecil, James R. Zaney (Jodie) of South Fayette, Nancy L. Zaney Adams (John) of Cecil, Linda M. Zaney Fleeher of Cecil and David W. Zaney (Nancy) of Avella. Her family believed she loved her grandchildren more than her own children (although she denied that). Her grandchildren are Tommy Adams (Gail), Shelly Zaney Klingan (Bill), Chris Zaney (Liz), Megan O’Grady Siconolfi (Matt), Erin Zaney, Ron G Fleeher (Lisa), Tara Zaney Kustron (Jay), Jeremy Fleeher (Corie), Lakyn Zaney and Ian Pearcn.

Her true gems were her great-grandchildren, Kaleb, Micah, Kaia, Ryan, Matteo, Theo, Katelyn, Gavin, Ciara, Alaina and Paisley. She was also a proud aunt of many nieces and nephews, who will sorely miss their private phone calls with mom.

Her loved ones thought she was embracing the gray hairs they gave her, however, that was not the case. So, to honor her wishes, there will be no visitation and private services will be held in National Cemetery of the Alleghenies, Cecil Township.

Arrangements are entrusted to Coleman-Taylor Funeral Services, Cecil.

TownView Health and Rehabilitation Center, Canonsburg, Washington Hospital Palliative Care Center and Concordia Hospice of Washington, Donnell House, provided Bette with great support in her final days.
