Master Sergeant Lemoin W. Brevard Sr., U.S. Army Retired, was called to his heavenly resting place Tuesday, August 21, 2018.
Lemoin, also known as “Frenchy” to loved ones, was born October 31, 1946, in Cecil, to the late Leila Clark Brevard. He was the middle child of nine siblings.
Lemoin met his wife, Rosalind Lindsay Brevard, in Washington in 1965. They married in 1967, and were blessed with three children – their daughter, Darnelle, followed by their sons, Lemoin Jr. and Marcell.
After graduating from Canon-McMillan High School in Canonsburg, Lemoin enlisted in the U.S. Army and served his country for 26 years. He was stationed all around the world throughout his service, starting with basic training at Fort Jackson, S.C., followed by Fort Stewart, Ga., Stuttgart, Germany, Fort McClellan, Ala., Aberdeen Proving Ground, Aberdeen, Md., again at Stuttgart, again at Fort Stewart, Berlin, Germany, Fort Belvoir, Va., and Aschaffenburg, Germany. He retired as a master sergeant from Fort Ord, Calif. Lemoin also served a combat tour in Vietnam and Desert Storm.
During his distinguished military career, Lemoin received numerous decorations and awards, including the Meritorious Service Medal, Army Commendation Medal, Army Achievement Medal with Triple Bronze Oak Leaf Clusters, Civilian Award for Humanitarian Service Medal, Army Good Conduct Medal with Two Knot Device, World War II Occupation Medal Ribbon Navy, National Defense Service Medal Ribbon, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal Ribbon, Vietnam Service Medal Ribbon with Double Bronze Star Device, Southwest Asia Service Medal Ribbon with Triple Bronze Star Device, Army NCO Professional Development Ribbon with Bronze Numeral 3, Army Service Ribbon, Army Overseas Service Ribbon with Bronze Numeral 2, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal and Saudi Arabian Medal for the Liberation of Kuwait.
Following his military career, Lemoin and his family retired to Stafford, Va. He began working for the government and retired after 20 years from the Pentagon Police Force.
He was a faithful member of Little Union Baptist Church in Dumfries, Va., and served as chef at many church events, as well as being on the welcoming committee.
His family and friends will miss the laughs and vacations, his food and love of music and many other treasured and cherished memories.
Lemoin is survived by his wife of 51 years, Rosalind Lindsay Brevard; daughter Darnelle Brevard Dixon (Claude); sons Lemoin Brevard Jr. (Gloria) and Marcell Brevard; his six grandchildren, Jessica Cunningham (Keith), Jordan Roberts (Norissa), Shaunicee Fitzpatrick (Keaun), Destiny Brevard, Talia Brevard and Madison Brevard; and his seven great-grandchildren. Also surviving are his sisters, Alberta Thomson and Karen Chapple; his brothers-in-law, George Lindsay (Dina) and Thomas Walden Jr. (Natalie); his mother-in-law, Georgia Lindsay; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends around the world.
He was preceded in death by six siblings, Jessie E. Benson, James Brevard, Audrey Carr, Marie Mattox, Prudence Chapple and Sterling Chapple Jr.
Family and friends will be received from 9 to 11 a.m., the time of a life celebration service, Saturday, September 8, in Mountcastle Turch Funeral Home, 13318 Occoquan Road, Woodbridge, VA 22191. Interment will take place at a later date in Arlington (Va.) National Cemetery.
