Richard F. Farich

Richard F. “Rich” Farich, 79, of Washington, formerly of Yukon, died at 12:46 p.m. Saturday, September 8, 2018, in Washington Hospital.

He was born November 14, 1938, in Yukon, a son of the late Matthew and Bertha Persin Farich.

Mr. Farich was a 1956 graduate of South Huntingdon High School.

He was Catholic.

He served in the U.S. Army and Air National Guard from 1962 to 1967. He was employed for 39½ years as an engineering specialist for Westinghouse Science & Technology Center, until his retirement.

Mr. Farich enjoyed boating, camping and fixing old cars and trucks. He was known as a mechanical genius and a perfectionist. He could fix anything. Mr. Farich was also a great teacher of auto mechanics, a great story teller and a wonderful family man who loved people. No one was a stranger to him and he made friends easily.

Mr. Farich held many patents within his work. He was a world leader in the area of specialty optical grinding and polishing of exotic materials. He was a member of Loyal Order of Moose Lodge 22. Mr. Farich was also very proud of his Croatian heritage.

On June 20, 1998, he married Shirley K. Krehel, who survives.

Also surviving are his children, Michael L. Farich of South Huntingdon, Jill (Tod) Oblak of Pittsburgh and John R. Farich of California; a sister, Becky Bobich of Jacobs Creek; and five grandchildren, Matthew Farich, Nicholas Farich, Samuel Farich, Merideth Farich and Emily Oblak.

Mr. Farich also leaves behind his loyal companion, Ryder, the family cat, who will miss him dearly.

Deceased, in addition to his parents, is a daughter, Kathleen Farich, who died at birth.

Friends will be received from 3 to 8 p.m. Thursday in Warco-Falvo Funeral Home Inc., corner of Wilson and East Katherine avenues, Washington, S. Timothy Warco, supervisor/director, Susan Falvo Warco, director, S. Timothy Warco II, director, where services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, September 14. Burial will be private.
