She was an active member of Monongahela Woman’s Club for 52 years, serving as club president from 1968 to 1970.

Carmel was a self-taught artist. For the past 20 years, she enjoyed painting on home-grown gourds of all shapes and sizes, turning them into penguins, Santas, snowmen, jack-o-lanterns and miniature people, then gifting them to family and friends.
Recently, Carmel wrote a book about her life for her family and entitled it, “Yesteryears.”
