Hazel M. Walter, 102, of Jefferson Hills, died Friday, September 28, 2018.
She was born January 2, 1916, one of four children of Curtis Henderson Myers and Emma Jane Sumney Myers. She grew up on the family farm in Nottingham Township, which today is Mingo Park.
Hazel was the last surviving member of Monongahela High School’s Class of 1934.
She graduated from Penn Commercial Business/Technical School in Washington after high school. She worked at the Maytag store in Washington and later at Coshocton Manufacturing in Monongahela.
In 1948, she married Carl Albert Walter, and they settled in Clairton.
She was a member of Wilson Presbyterian Church, Clairton and Rostraver Grange. She loved gardening, canning, cooking, baking pies, planting flowers and all farm animals.
She was the devoted wife of Carl, who died in 1984; loving mother of Howard (Darlene), George and Ruth Walter; and sister of the late Ralph Myers, Mary Neill and Ross Myers.
Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Monday and 10 to 11 a.m., the time of service, Tuesday, October 2, in Stephen D. Slater Funeral Home, 1701 Route 51, Jefferson Hills, PA 15025.
The family suggests contributions be made to her church, Wilson Presbyterian Church, 400 North Fourth Street, Clairton, PA 15025.
