William Lee Hornick

William Lee Hornick, 85, died Wednesday, September 26, 2018.

He was born August 11, 1933, in West Milford, W.Va.

He was a 1951 graduate of Unidis High School, West Milford.

Bill joined the U.S. Navy in 1952, serving until 1956. He remained in the Naval Reserve for a number of years and was discharged with the rank of petty officer first class.

He retired from Joy Manufacturing after 25 years of service.

Bill was a member of Washington Country Club for 37 years, where he served several terms on the board of directors and was a past president.

Preceding him in death were his beloved wife, Mardella Jane Yeager, who died in 1968; his father, Alfred, and mother, Wilma Louise Dawson; brothers James Freeman and Sonny Hornick; and grandson Nicholas Ryan Swart.

He leaves behind a son, Michael Steven (Lisa Harty); a daughter, Amber Jaye Swart; and good friend Barry Waychoff. Other survivors are granddaughters Stephanie Marie Swart (Jason Ruscello) and Brittany Lee Swart (Ryan Weatherax) and great-grandchildren Alaina Lynn and Bailey Jordyn Swart and their mother, Chelsea Ritenour, and Roman Enzo and Grayson Louis Ruscello.

Bill was a great lover of dogs, especially his German shepherd, Presley.

There will be a short memorial service at 11 a.m. Monday, October 8, in Washington Country Club.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to an animal rescue of the donor’s choice.
