Robert E. “Bob” Guthrie

Robert E. “Bob” Guthrie, 84, of Washington, died Friday, March 29, 2019, in the Donnell House.

He was born December 18, 1934, in Cameron, W.Va., a son of the late Willis Guthrie.

Mr. Guthrie was a 1953 graduate of Claysville High School, where he was actively involved in sports, especially football. He was employed by West Penn Power for 37 years in sales, Engineering, and retired in 1996 as a Customer Service Rep. While employed, Bob spent many years attending the University of Pittsburgh, in the evening.

He was a member of Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks Lodge 776 and was the Past President of the former Washington Junior Chamber of Commerce, and favorite past times were golf and the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Mr. Guthrie served in the U.S. Air Force from 1953 to 1957, during the Korean Conflict.

On August 1, 2003, in Winchester, Va., he married Jayne Buckley, who survives.

Surviving are his wife’s children, Mike (Kim) Aburachis of Peters Township and Lisa (Howard) Herman of Atlanta, Ga.; five stepgrandchildren; a half sister, Diane Daniels of Claysville; and his favorite cousin, Stephen Guthrie of Apex, N.C.

Deceased are his stepmother, Mary Guthrie; a son, Michael Guthrie; and a half sister, Donna Guthrie Davidson.

Friends will be received from 11 a.m. to noon, the time of service, Saturday, April 6, in the Piatt and Barnhill Funeral Home, 420 Locust Ave., Washington. All other services will be private.
