David Adams, 87, of Washington, died Wednesday, January 30, 2019, in South Hills Rehabilitation Center. He was born November 30, 1931, a son of the late William and Fannie Brownlee Adams.
He worked at Hazel Atlas Glass Plant #1 and for Washington Steel for 36 years leading up to his retirement.
He enlisted in the Pennsylvania National Guard on July, 18, 1947. After three years of service and re-enlistment, he was called to active duty. From August 15, 1950 to 1952, he served with Co. H, 110th Infantry, during the Korean Conflict, serving in Germany, where he was promoted to Staff Sargent, in the machine gun platoon. In 1953, he reenlisted and was promoted to sergeant first class. In 1956, he was promoted to platoon sergeant, in the mortar platoon and recoilless rifles. Due to military changes, he was transferred to Company B, 110th Infantry, Canonsburg, until 1968. He then re-enlisted in the 408th General Supply Group. He retired after that enlistment with more than 22 years of service.
On November 22, 1958, he married Francis Navoy, who died July 3, 2000.
Mr. Adams was an avid hunter and was a member of the Anawana Hunting and Fishing Club. He was also a life member of the National Rifle Association and an American Legionnaire. He also belonged to the 28th Division Heritage Association and the Fluck-McConnell Post #81, Washington, Society of 28th Div. A.E.F.
Surviving are his second family, who took care of him for nearly the last decade of his life, Robin and Brooke Layhue and their children, Taylor, Morgan, Bently, and Brady. Also surviving is a great-nephew, Tony (Caye) Adams.
Deceased, in addition to his parents and wife, are two brothers, William and John; and three sisters, Thelma, Madge and Ferne.
Friends will be received from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., the time of service, Monday, February 4, in the Hummell and Jones Funeral Home, 420 Locust Avenue, Washington, Thomas W.
