Nina C. Goldsmith
Nina C. Goldsmith, 99, of Mt. Lebanon, formerly of Upper St. Clair, entered the gates of heaven Saturday, December 29, 2018.
She is survived by her loving family, consisting of two daughters, Beth (Peter) Brooks of Peters Township and Karna of Mt. Lebanon; three grandchildren, Michael and Stephen (Carolyn) Brooks and Joanna (Jeff) Smaracheck; and three great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her cherished sister-in-law, Marjorie Goldsmith, and many nieces, whom she treasured.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, James; her sister, Elizabeth Sturm; and her brothers, Berton and Lester Lackie.
She dearly loved her family and enjoyed spending time with them.
Nina was born on a farm in Stark County, Ill., and taught school in a one-room schoolhouse, before going to work in Washington, D.C. during World War II to do her part for the war effort. After the war, she went to Chicago, where she met her husband, James, to whom she was happily married for 34 years, until he died in 1987.
She was an active member of St. David’s Episcopal Church for many years, helping to start their weekday nursery school and Meals on Wheels program.
She was a voracious reader and loved to play bridge. Until her early 90s, she went on many trips, covering all 50 states and other countries.
Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday in Beinhauer Funeral Home, 2828 Washington Road, McMurray. A service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, January 4, in St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, 1066 Washington Road, Pittsburgh, PA 15228. Everyone is asked to meet at the church. Interment will be private.
