Robert Joseph Jeffries
Robert Joseph “Grumpy” Jeffries, 81, of Washington, died on Sunday, January 13, 2019, in the Washington Hospital.
He was born on May 9, 1937, in Washington, a son of the late Clarence Jeffries and Edna Orndoff Jeffries Eckert.
A 1955 graduate of Washington High School, he also completed college HVAC courses.
Mr. Jeffries was a retired projectionist for several local movie theaters. He was also retired as supervisor of maintenance from Washington School District, having worked there from 1963 until 2012.
A veteran of the United States Marine Corps, he served during the Korean War, from October 14, 1955, until his honorable discharge as a corporal, on October 13, 1959. For his service, he was awarded the USMC Good Conduct Medal.
Robert was an avid hunter and reader, who enjoyed fishing and gardening.
Mr. Jeffries was a lifetime member of the National Rifle Association, and was a member of the North American Hunting Club, the Canonsburg Sportsmen’s Club, the Anawana Hunting and Fishing Club and the Keystone Club.
On December 16, 1989, he married Josephine A. Grudi, who survives.
Also surviving are two daughters, Lisa (Bobby) Coffield and Diane Jobes, both of Washington; two sisters, Sonja Reid of Nebraska and Erica Eckert of Washington; a granddaughter, Corbi (Andrew) Spargur; a great-grandchild, Teague Spargur; as well as several nieces and nephews.
Deceased is a sister, Shirley Musgrave.
Friends will be received from 3 to 5:30 p.m., the time of service, Friday, January 18, in the William G. Neal Funeral Homes, Ltd., 925 Allison Avenue, Washington, PA 15301.
Military rites will be accorded at the funeral home, following the services, by the Edwin Scott Linton Post 175 of the American Legion.
