Anna M. Balach
Anna Maria Balach, of Scenery Hill, passed away January 10, 2019 due to complications from diabetes.
Ms. Balach was born February 14, 1948 in Ghinda, Ethiopia (now Eritrea). She attended the Decamare Fate Mission School, graduating in 1965.
She married Johnny W. Balach, a Sailor in the U.S. Navy, who was stationed at Kagnew Station just outside of Asmara Ethiopia (now Eritrea) in 1968. They were stationed at Naval Station Great Lakes in Kenosha, Wis.; Naval Station Rota, Spain; and Naval Base, Charleston, S.C.
Upon Johnny’s separation from the service in 1973, they settled in the Pittsburgh area; first in East Carnegie and then in Scenery Hill.
She divorced Johnny in 1982, but she remained in Scenery Hill for the rest of her life.
She dedicated her life to supporting her family; working at the Ramada Inn in Washington, first as a housekeeper then as a server for almost 20 years. She spent the rest of her professional life as a server at the Washington Cracker Barrel Old Country Store, retiring in 2012.
In retirement, she enjoyed the love of her children and grandchildren, and gardening.
She is survived by her sons, Richard W. Balach of Washington, Captain Matthew R. Balach, U.S. Army, currently stationed at Yokota Air Force Base, Japan; her daughter, Gloria M. Balach of Oakdale; her long-time companion, Greg L. Wyar of Johnstown; and her eight grandchildren.
She is predeceased by her eldest daughter, Paula A. Davis of Burgettstown.
Friends will be received from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday in the John B. Greenlee Funeral Home Ltd., 2830 Main St., Beallsville, where funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, January 26.
