Hazel Irene Boyd Areford

Hazel Irene Boyd Areford, 96, of Carmichaels, went to be with her Lord and savior on Tuesday, January 22, 2019 at Evergreen Personal Care Home, Waynesburg.

She was born July 8, 1922 in Deep Valley, a daughter of Frank W. and Mary Ellen Whipkey Boyd.

Mrs. Areford was a member of the Muddy Creek Presbyterian Church, which later merged with the Greene Valley Presbyterian Church. She served as a Sunday School teacher and sang in the choir for many years at the Muddy Creek Church.

For many years, Mrs. Areford was a member of the Carmichaels Grange and the Cumberland Township Society of Farm Women. She enjoyed bowling, gardening, and especially tending to her roses.

On October 14, 1940 she married John Sherman Areford, of Carmichaels, who died November 26, 1994. Together they owned and operated the Areford Supply Company for over thirty years.

She was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother.

Surviving are three sons, Gerald S. (Bonnie), of Fla., Donald F., of Fla., John B. (Amy) of Carmichaels; a granddaughter, Jennifer L.; and two nieces, Beverly (William) Atkins, and Mary (Ronald) Pletz.

Deceased is a sister, Kathryn Parker; and a niece, Darlene Young.

Family and friends are welcome from 4 to 8p.m. on Friday, January 25 and 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday, January 26 at the time of the service, with the Reverend P. Keith Larson, officiating in the chapel at the Paul M. Lesako Funeral Home Inc., 204 Dowlin Avenue, Carmichaels, PA., 15320 724-966-5100.

Interment will follow at the Muddy Creek Cemetery.
