Frank Silas Lillard Sr.
Frank Silas Lillard Sr., 92, of Francis Mine, passed away Friday, January 25, 2019, surrounded by his children and grandchildren.
He was born January 12, 1927, in Burgettstown, a son of the late Annie Harshey Mooney and James Lillard, and the late John Mooney, who raised Frank and took him in as his own son.
Frank was the loving husband of the late Virginia Brown Lillard, who died in 1998.
He had two businesses in Burgettstown specializing in transmission repair, worked at Mushuta construction as a heavy equipment mechanic, Bologna Ford, and Jim Dellaria Ford, Lincoln, Mercury. Frank retired from Cooper Industries in Canonsburg as head boiler operator.
Frank and Virginia loved to travel, and he continued to travel after her death. He enjoyed golf, playing pool, visiting the casino and participated in the senior games.
Frank was also a World War II veteran of the U.S. Army and a member of American Legion. He was also a member of Burgettstown Senior Center, where he spent a lot of time with his friends playing pool, and was a member of Hillside Chapel, Christ in Christian Union Church.
Frank enjoyed taking videos of family and friends.
Frank is survived by his children, Gloria Whiting of Burgettstown, Frank Lillard Jr. of Francis Mine, Patricia Tomblin of Burgettstown, Robert (Sande) Lillard of Francis Mine and Lorraine Howard of Burgettstown; eight grandchildren, Norman Whiting, James (Alicia) Cassels Jr., Anthony Whiting, Laverne (Chad) Conley, Paul Howard Jr., Lauren Lillard, Tia Welch and Derick Lillard; 11 great-grandchildren; a great-great-grandchild; and a host of nieces and nephews.
Frank was preceded in death by four sisters, Laura Moore, Katherine Johnson, Elsie Kinney and Virginia Orison; four brothers, Ernest Wheeler and Johnny, Jimmy and Howard Huggins; and a grandson Robert Lillard Jr.
Viewing will be held from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Young Funeral Home & Cremation Services Inc., 23 Erie Mine Road, Burgettstown, 724-947-2049, www.youngfhinc.com, where funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, January 30. Burial will take place at Fairview Cemetery, Burgettstown.
