Peggy Loraine Sargent passed away Saturday, March 2, 2019, at the age of 88.

She was born November 7, 1930, in Washington, where she lived her entire life, to parents Earl Adams and Helen Masters. Her grandparents, Samuel and Ann Masters, were also a significant presence in her upbringing. Peggy was an only child.

Peggy attended Washington elementary schools and Washington High School, from where she graduated in 1948. Among her many activities was being a cheerleader.

After graduation, she began a career at the Bell Telephone Co. She kept many lifelong friends from this affiliation and attended the club events most of her life.

Peggy married her high school sweetheart, Fred Sargent, February 22, 1950. From this union came three daughters, twins Sydney and Denise, born in 1951, and daughter Stacey, born in 1957. She was very committed to motherhood and dedicated her life to her daughters, being a Girl Scout leader, room mother and much more. She had tireless energy for anything that was asked of her. Her family called her the “Energizer Bunny.”

Peggy was a successful Avon representative and then went on to work in the jewelry department at the J.C. Penney Co., where she became department manager and earned many sales awards.

In later years, Peggy enjoyed vacationing with her family in California, Idaho and Florida. In retirement, she and Fred traveled on a much anticipated trip to Italy.

Peggy was an enthusiastic and indulgent grandmother to her three grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

She loved to talk and made friends wherever she went. She also loved to cook, decorate and shop. The world will be very lonely and quiet without her in it.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Helen Masters Baldwin and Earl Adams; her grandparents, Samuel and Ann Masters and Charles and Hazel Adams; her mother-in-law, Mary Sargent; aunt, Ellen Carlet; her beloved “sister,” Jane Simmons (Ralph); as well as her in-laws, Elvira Perry (Sam), Anita Cancelmi (Joe), Eleanor Cromp (Tom) and Ralph Sargent (Rose Marie).

She is survived by her husband of 69 years, Fred; her daughters, Sydney Spencer (Steve), Denise Falcone (Mark) and Stacey Sargent (Gary Auslander); her grandchildren, Dane Spencer (Jasmine), Amy Cisneros (Roger) and Deidre Spencer (Chris Stroud); her six great-granddaughters, Dylan and Scout Spencer, Lila and Emilia Stroud and Reagan and Sloane Cisneros; as well as brother-in-law, Vincent Sargent (Audrey); and Elaine Milhollan; and many nieces and nephews and their families.

Peggy liked to say that “she wasn’t raised to joke,” but she was hilarious and her many funny statements will be remembered by and live on in her family, who loved and cherished her beyond measure.

Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, March 8, in Warco-Falvo Funeral Home Inc., Wilson at East Katherine Avenue, Washington, S. Timothy Warco, Supervisor/Director, Susan Falvo Warco, Director, S. Timothy Warco II, Director. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 9, in the funeral home. Entombment will follow in Washington Cemetery Serenity Mausoleum. Peggy loved flowers or donations can be made to the Presbyterian Senior Care Foundation or The Donnell House. Condolences may be expressed at www.WarcoFalvoFuneralHome.com.
