Andrew J. Simko, 93, of Canonsburg, passed away peacefully Thursday, March 7, 2019, in Canonsburg Hospital.

He was born on May 13, 1925 in Canonsburg to Vincent and Mary Simko who preceded him in death.

Andrew was a graduate from Canonsburg High School in 1943.

Mr. Simko was a veteran having served his country in the United States Army as a sergeant from May 1943 until November 1945. He was stationed in Europe and was awarded five battle stars. He also was awarded several military decorations and citations, including the Good Conduct Medal, the American Theater Ribbon, Victory Medal and the European-African-Middle Eastern Theater Ribbon.

On April 4, 1948, he married Mary Kern, who passed away February 15, 2017 after celebrating 68 years of marriage.

He was employed by Fort Pitt Bridge Works and retired after 39 years of service as a superintendent.

Andrew was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church in Canonsburg. He also was a member of Knights of Columbus, American Legion Post 902 and VFW Post 191 of Canonsburg.

Surviving are his only daughter, Terri Simko of Houston; his sisters, Agnes Murphy of Islip, N.Y., Dolores Cheverine of Canonsburg, Catherine Funke of Roseville, Mich.; several nieces and nephews; and his four-legged friends, Stella and Earl.

In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Vincent Simko, Jr.; and sisters Mary Gonglik, Elizabeth Churray and Cecelia Lipinski.

Friends are welcome from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, March 12, in Salandra Funeral and Cremation Services, Inc., Joseph P. Salandra, LFD, owner/supervisor and Darla A. Tripoli, LFD, 304 West Pike Street, Canonsburg, 724-745-8120 where departing prayers will begin at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, March 13. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at noon in Saint Patrick Catholic Church, 317 West Pike Street, Canonsburg. Interment will be at 1:30 p.m. in National Cemetery of the Alleghenies, 1158 Morgan Road, Bridgeville. Full Military Rites will be accorded by VFW Post 191 of Canonsburg and the United States Army Honor Guard.
