Samuel A. Benyi

Samuel A. Benyi, 70, of Clarksville, died Saturday, May 25, 2019, in The Grove at Washington.

He was born February 25, 1949, in Clarksville, a son of the late Samuel Francis and Joan Smith Benyi.

Mr. Smith was a 1967 graduate of Bethlehem-Center High School and was a retired coal miner from Clyde Mine in Fredericktown.

He attended Clarksville Christian Church and was mayor of Clarksville for 10 years.

Mr. Benyi was a lifetime member of Clarksville Volunteer Fire Company, where he served as chief, assistant chief and chaplain.

He was also a member of the Izaak Walton League. Sam was an avid fisherman and hunter, and he enjoyed camping and the outdoors.

Surviving are his wife, Linda Baer Benyi, whom he married December 22, 1973.

Also surviving are three sons, Sammy Benyi Jr. of North Huntingdon, Michael (Linda) Benyi of South Park and Danny Benyi of Clarksville; two grandchildren, Jacelyn Benyi and Korah Benyi; a great-grandson, Jaxson; and three sister-in-laws, Jean Collins of Clarksville, Joan Baer of Clarksville and Sharon Wallach of Rices Landing.

Friends will be received from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday in Behm Funeral Home, 1477 Jefferson Road, Jefferson, PA 15344, Gregory P. Rohanna, supervisor, where services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, May 30.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to Clarksville Volunteer Fire Company or Clarksville Festival Fund, at the Clarksville Boro.
