Walter Ray Smith, 80, of Greensboro, died Thursday, October 17, 2019, in his home.
Mr. Smith was born November 7, 1938, in Waynesburg, son of the late James A. and Ruth A. Rush Smith.
Walter worked as a sawyer at the former Headlee Sawmill at Greensboro.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Shirleen Joan Vernon Smith; a daughter, Penny Iams (Dwayne) of Carmichaels; three sons, Timothy Smith of Carmichaels, Gregory Smith (Christine) of Greensboro and Samuel Smith (Heather) of Greensboro; eight grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren, five siblings, Violet English, James, Robert and Earl Smith, and Betty Lou Knoll; and many nieces and nephews.
Six siblings are deceased, Glenn, Melvin and John Smith, Maxine Areford, Loretta Patterson and Kay Paterson.
Family and friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday in Paul M. Lesako Funeral Home Inc., 204 Dowlin Avenue, Carmichaels, PA 15320, 724-966-5100, and 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., the time of the funeral service, Sunday, October 20, in the funeral home chapel. Interment will follow in Garards Fort Cemetery.
