James Alvin Mounts
James Alvin Mounts, 95, of Washington, went home to be with his Lord Monday, August 24, 2020, after losing a battle with cancer.
He was born at home in Buffalo Township March 1, 1925, a son of James Adam and Zada Scott Mounts.
He attended East Buffalo School and Trinity High School.
On March 28, 1944, he married Florence Virginia Shipley in the home of the Reverend William Loriemer.
He is survived by his children, James Albert (Debi), Nancy Kaye (David) Ricker, Donna Jean (John Mike) Thomas, Sandra Lee (Larry) Halverson, Diana Lynne (Charlie) Smith and Gary Eugene; one brother, Martin (Jackie); 15 grandchildren, James Jr., Mark, Michael, Hannah, Joanna, Leanna, Anna Lisa, Melissa, Charles, Kevin, Gail, Timothy, Daniel, Jeffrey, and Brian;20 great-grandchildren, James, Hannah, Owen, Samantha, Jason, Emily, Aiden, Noah, Oliver, Brooklyn, Reece, Lincoln, Abigail, Alexander, Kayla, Caleb, Micah, Andrew, Jeffrey Jr., and Ava.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Virginia; three grandchildren, Nathanael, Karis and Jonathan; five brothers; and four sisters.
Mr. Mounts farmed for a number of years and was later employed by Suwak Trucking Company for more than 30 years before retiring. He was a member of the Teamsters Union and a longtime member of the National Rifle Association.
Mr. Mounts attended an independent Baptist church, where he served in various roles as a deacon, trustee, elder and Sunday school teacher. He enjoyed hunting and gardening. His favorite pastime was reading, and he particularly enjoyed special visits with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Funeral arrangements will be handled by the William G. Neal Funeral Home, 925 Allison Avenue, Washington. Due to state-mandated Covid-19 restrictions, all services are private. A graveside service open to the public will be held at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, September 2, at the West Alexander Cemetery.
