William Lingis, 85, of Vestaburg, passed away Thursday, December 3, 2020, in Mon Valley Hospital.

He was born April 16, 1935, in New Salem, a son of the late Anthony and Genevieve Funk Lingis.

Mr. Lingis was a 1953 graduate of East Bethlehem High School.

He was a U.S. Air Force veteran serving as a jet mechanic in Okinawa during the Korean War.

William was employed as a State Police Officer in Troop B Waynesburg. He attained the rank of Corporal and was the head of criminal investigations retiring in 1990 with 32 years of service.

Mr. Lingis was a member and past president of the Clarksville Lions Club and a member of the Fraternal Order of Police, American Legion Post #391 Fredericktown, a former East Bethlehem Township Commissioner and was active in the Vestaburg community.

He enjoyed many activities including trout fishing, hunting, wood crafting, gardening, bicycling and walking. He was instrumental in fundraising for the Bethlehem Center Band.

On October 8, 1966, he married Genevieve Helmick Lingis, who survives. They celebrated 54 years of marriage.

Surviving, in addition to his wife, are a son, William A. Lingis (Dani) of New Stanton; two grandchildren, Noah and Jillienne Lingis; seven siblings, Anthony Lingis (Dorothy) of Waynesburg, Ralph Lingis of Eldorado Hills, Calif., Robert Lingis (Barbara) of Gainesville, Fla., David Lingis (Carol), Rickie Lingis (Patty), Kent Lingis, all of Vestaburg, and Denise Turner (Dave) of Ft. Mill, S.C.; several nieces and nephews.

Deceased, in addition to his parents, are two brothers, Charles and Kevin Lingis.

Funeral services are private and under the direction of the Greenlee’s Fredericktown Funeral Home, Ltd. Interment will be in Lafayette Memorial Park at 1:45 p.m. Monday, December 14.
