Anthony “Tony” Bongiovanni, 96, of Washington, passed away Monday, December 21, 2020, in Washington.

He was born September 10, 1924, in Washington, a son of Anthony and Nickelene Nester Bongiovanni.

Tony was a member of St. Hilary Church in Washington, and the American Legion Post #175 of Washington.

Pennsylvania Transformer employed him as a layout worker for 35 years.

He was a veteran of World War II having served in the Battle of the Bulge, Ardennes, Rhineland and Central Europe. During his military service, he earned the Army Occupation Medal (Germany), Good Conduct Medal, American Theater Ribbon, European African Middle Eastern Theater Ribbon, the World War II Victory Ribbon, the Bronze Star and three bronze service medals.

He was an avid woodworker who enjoyed inventing, and was a drummer for all of his adult life.

In June of 1951, in St. Hilary Church, he married Joan Morris, who preceded him in death February 15, 2013.

Surviving are a son, Anthony Bongiovanni (fiancee Debbie) of Port Saint Lucie, Fla.; and a daughter, Mary Jo Bongiovanni of Washington; two grandchildren, Elisabeth (Ryan) Kepler and Brianne (Kelly) Smith; three great grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.

Tony was the last of his immediate family, having been preceded in death by two brothers, Johnny Bongiovanni and Domenick Bongiovanni; and four sisters, Fran Villars, Sarah Allegro, Minnie Colusci and Helen Harding.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, all arrangements are private with entombment to be held in Immaculate Conception Mausoleum in Washington.
