Gertrude Irene Campagna Sten

Gertrude Irene Campagna Sten, 93, of Washington, died Wednesday, December 23, 2020, in Hawthorn Woods.

She was born October 13, 1927, in Scenery Hill, a daughter of Clarence W. and Gertrude Hildebrand.

Mrs. Sten was a faithful member of First Lutheran Church, Washington, where she sang in the church choir.

Gertie was a graduate of Ellsworth High School and for a time at the end of World War II, she worked at Tygert Valley Glass Co. She also worked at Snyders Answering Service in Washington for many years after raising her two sons.

She was a dedicated wife and homemaker.

She was an original member of the Washington County Choir, who had a beautiful alto voice.

On June 17, 1948, she married Samuel A. Campagna. Mr. Campagna died in January of 2000.

In April of 2002, she married John Sten. Mr. Sten died April 25, 2014.

Surviving are her son, Richard C. Campagna of Chesterfield, Va.; three stepsons, Bruce (Lisa) Sten of Prospect, Alan (Lucy) Sten and Paul (Deborah) Sten, both of Washington; three grandchildren, Abby, Wyatt and Edwin Sten; a brother, George Robert Hildebrand of Washington; and many nieces and nephews.

Deceased are a son, Dennis Campagna; three brothers, Sonny, Johnny and Bill Hildebrand; a sister, Ruth Ann.

All services will be private and held at the convenience of the family.

The family suggests memorial contributions be directed to the Alzheimer’s Association, www.alz.org, or her church, First Lutheran Church, 92 W Walnut Street, Washington, PA 15301.
