Clancy A. Murray

Clancy A. Murray, 82, of Jefferson, died Saturday, February 1, 2020.

He was born June 24, 1937, in Jefferson, a son of the late Clancy Isaac and Florence Bell Ewart Murray.

Clancy was a 1958 graduate of Jefferson-Morgan High School.

He worked several years as an industrial painter, as a coal miner at the former Gateway and Vesta 5 Coal Mines and was a Jefferson Township road supervisor for three terms.

Clancy was a 61 year member of the Jefferson Volunteer Fire Company, served as chief four times, as well as all the other line officer positions. He was a member of the Western Pennsylvania Past Chief’s Association, Old Timers Association, Steam Engine Association and the Waynesburg Moose Lodge #461. He was an original member of the Jefferson Hotel-American Legion Steeler Football Club as well as a social member of the American Legion Post #954, Jefferson.

In the early 1970s he helped organize and coached the Jefferson-Morgan Midget Wrestling Team and coached little league baseball.

While in good health he enjoyed hunting, fishing and working on his farm.

Clancy attended the Jefferson Church of the Nazarene.

On February 6, 1960, he married Sandra “Sandy” Faye Vargo Murray, who survives.

Also surviving are four children, Audie A. Murray of Colorado Springs, Colo., Tammy (Rich) Neubauer of New Freedom, Dan (Dawn) Murray of Clarksville and Sandy Jean (John) Demski of Jefferson; eight grandchildren, Greg Murray, Brian Murray, Vanessa Murray, Kevin Murray, Jacqueline Murray, Jared Murray, Chandler Demski and Garrett Neubauer; three great-grandchildren, Isaac, Nora and Elias Murray.

Deceased is a son, Clancy “CA” Murray Jr.; a brother, Arlie “Pete” Murray; two sisters, Ruth Adamson and Dorothy “Jean” Stimmell.

Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, February 5, in the Behm Funeral Home, 1477 Jefferson Road, Jefferson, PA 15344, Gregory P. Rohanna, supervisor, where funeral services will be held 11 a.m. on Thursday, February 6, with the Rev. Carl Kibler officiating. Interment will follow in Greene County Memorial Park, Waynesburg.
