Carmela J. Luisi

Carmela J. Luisi, 91, of Canonsburg, passed away peacefully Wednesday, March 4, 2020, in Allegheny General Hospital, Pittsburgh. She was born April 14, 1928, in Palena, Italy, a daughter of the late Falco and Filomena Carozza Lucchitti.

Carmela lived most of her life in Canonsburg, where she was a member of St. Patrick Roman Catholic Church and the Christian Mothers and Guild. She taught Sunday school at St. Patrick for many years and had been a member of the Catholic Daughters of the Americas Court Canonsburg 1211.

Mrs. Luisi was a graduate of Canonsburg High School, where she was valedictorian of her class, and had been employed at the RCA in Canonsburg in her youth. Prior to her retirement, she had been an office manager with the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Resources for many years. She enjoyed collecting roosters and shoes, and loved reading and opera.

On June 4, 1948, she married Nicholas S. Luisi, who passed away December 27, 2008.

Left behind to cherish her memory are her beloved sons, Nicholas Paul (Diane) Luisi of Clearwater, Fla., David John Luisi of Ft. Pierce, Fla., and Donald Mark (Doreen) Luisi of Canonsburg; grandchildren Rachel Carmela (Chris) Holler, Andrew Anthony and Nicholas Donald Luisi, Nichole (Don) Delehant; great-grandson Dominick Holler; her sister, Ida Kern of Canonsburg; brothers Anthony (Maureen) Lucchitti of Bethel Park and Louis (Dawn) Lucchitti of Longwood, Fla.; and many nieces and nephews.

Deceased, in addition to her husband and parents, are her sister, Jennie E. Cortis, who passed away November 23, 2019.

Friends and family are welcome from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, March 9, in Salandra Funeral and Cremation Services, Inc., Joseph P. Salandra LFD, owner / supervisor, 304 West Pike Street, Canonsburg, where departing prayers will be recited at 9 a.m. Tuesday, March 10. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 9:30 a.m. in St Patrick Church, 317 West Pike Street, Canonsburg, with her godson, Father Joseph Luisi, as celebrant. Interment will follow at 11 a.m. in the National Cemetery of the Alleghenies, Cecil Township. The Christian Mothers and Guild will recite the rosary at 2 p.m. Monday in the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. Patrick Roman Catholic Church.
