David C. “Red” Brunner, 71, of Washington, died Sunday, March 28, 2021, in Allegheny General Hospital, Pittsburgh.

He was born September 18, 1949, in Pittsburgh, a son of the late Francis J. and Gloria Sommers Brunner.

David graduated from Allegheny High School. He was a machinist and welder for Millcraft Industries.

He was a member of Our Lady of Miraculous Medal Church. His faith supported him through many personal trials.

David was an avid motorcyclist. He was an outdoorsman, hunter and craftsman. He loved farming, gardening, cooking, baking and smoking meats. He was known as a hardworking, dedicated family man, and well loved by all.

David served his country proudly in the Navy and Army Reserves. He served in the Navy from 1968-1972. He was awarded the National Defense Service Medal and Good Conduct Award. He served many years with the Army Reserves, awarding him two Army Commendation Medals, seven Achievement Medals, Good Conduct Medal, four Army Reserve Components Achievement Medals, three National Defense Service Medals, Armed Forces Reserve Medal w/M Device, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, and Iraq Campaign Medal.

He was very active in the American Legion Honor Guard in Claysville and Washington.

On April 17, 1971, David married Gretchen Schultz, who died August 3, 2015.

Surviving are sons Andrew (Suzanne Urszan) Brunner of Washington and Randall (Laura Briggs) Brunner of Bethel Park; daughters Katrina (Robert) Schlichtkrull of Wexford and Abagail (Eduardo) Lucero of El Cajon, Calif.; daughter-in-law Nicole Stratta; many brothers and sisters; grandchildren David, Michaela, Alina, Emilia, Gabriana, Elyssa, Natalia, Riley, Aracela, Lillian, Paloma, Abel.

David was preceded in death by daughters Edith Brunner, Amanda Brunner and Samantha Barron; and son Stanley Brunner.

Arrangements are entrusted to William G. Neal Funeral Homes Ltd., 925 Allison Avenue, Washington, PA 15301.

There will be a time of visitation from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday and Wednesday, April 6 and 7, in the funeral home. All Covid-19 precautions apply.

A Mass of Christian Burial is scheduled for 11 a.m. Thursday, April 8, in St. Oscar Romero Parish (Our Lady of the Miraculous Medal), 300 Pike Street, Meadowlands, PA 15347, with Father Carmen D’Amico as celebrant.
