John M. Bedner, 91, of Donora, died Saturday, April 10, 2021. Born in Donora June 19, 1929, he was a son of the late Michael P. and Mary V. Kopanic Bednar.
John was a graduate of Donora High School and was retired from the Irvin Works of US Steel. He was a member of St. Andrew the Apostle Parish in Donora and was active in the Rosary Society and the First Friday Adoration.
He enjoyed hunting, fishing and gardening, but what was most important to John was his family.
He honorably served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.
He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Anna Marie Rudinec Bedner; children John (Kim) Bedner of Charleroi, Dr. Joann (Scott) Strain of Castle Shannon and Dr. Eugene (Tina) Bedner of Eighty Four; grandchildren Scott (Christina) Strain of Partlow, Va., Michael (Amanda) Bedner of Washington and Alexandra Bedner and Gabrielle Bedner, both of Eighty Four; great-granddaughters Aria Strain and Adelynn Bedner; and siblings Raymond Bedner of Donora, Marcella (John) Hynok of Donora and Thomas (Regina) Bednar of Monessen.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Michael Bednar.
Friends will be received from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, April 13, in the James C. Stump Funeral Home Inc., 580 Circle Drive, Rostraver Township (724-929-7934), www.jamesstumpfuneralhome.com, where a blessing service will be held at 10:15 a.m. Wednesday, April 14, followed by a Funeral Mass at 11 a.m. in St. Andrew the Apostle Parish in Donora, with the Rev. Kevin Dominik presiding. Interment, with military honors, will follow in St. Dominic Cemetery.
Everyone attending the visitation and services must wear a mask and practice social distancing.
