It is with deep sadness that we announce the loss of our Soul Man, Zach Arlen Martin, 59, Saturday, April 10, 2021

He was born August 15, 1961, in Washington, a son of the late Kenneth and Ruth Martin.

Zach graduated from Washington High School in 1979 and then attended carpentry school. He was self-employed, Zam Interiors, and had a talent for drywall, plaster, carpentry and painting. He was known for his textured finished ceilings.

Zach was larger than life and the consummate performer. He had a desire to make people happy and laugh. He had a quick-witted humor and was a great storyteller. He dedicated his soul to music and enjoyed performing and songwriting. He was the lead singer of The Fugitives, who were known for being “Soul Damn Good” for “One Night Only.” Some of his favorite memories were being chosen out of the crowd on multiple occasions to sing with big names like The Temptations and the Isley Brothers. Ronnie Isley said, “You sound a little bit like Teddy Pendergrass” and the crowd went crazy.

He is survived by his loving partner of more than 20 years, Tracy Huffman; daughters, Melissa Andreone and Amanda Huffman (Jonny) Hauge; grandchildren, Alyssa and Zane Garner, and Lucas Andreone; siblings, Patti (Richard Chester) Lucas, Dirk (Pam) Martin, Kent (Christy) Martin and Christy Lane Miles; nieces and nephews, Melissa (Mark Matuska) Shary, DeAnna Martin, Colan (Meredythe) Miles, Coury (Emily Westcott) Miles, and Clay and Brett Martin; and great-nephews, Camden, Cayden and Callin.

Zach was preceded in death by a sister, Sheila Shary.

He was blessed to have many lifelong friends and will be sadly missed by his regular Sunday football buddies, band mates and his dog and best pal, Opie.

There is nothing Zach enjoyed more than a gathering of the people he loved most. Services will be held for “One Night Only.”

Friends will be received from 1 until 5 p.m., the hour of a funeral service, Saturday, April 17, in the Warco-Falvo Funeral Home, Inc., Wilson at East Katherine Avenues, Washington, S. Timothy Warco, supervisor / director, Susan Falvo Warco, director, S. Timothy Warco II, director. Those in attendance are asked to please wear a facial covering and COVID-19 occupancy restrictions will be adhered to.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association.
