Donato A. DiCio
Donato “Dan” A. DiCio, 83, of Canonsburg and Fort Meyers, Fla., died Tuesday, April 20, 2021.
He was born February 28, 1938, in Canonsburg, a son of Frank and Joan Mirisciotta DiCio.
Mr. DiCio was a lifelong member of St. Patrick Roman Catholic Church. He was a 1956 graduate of Gilmour Academy, Gates Mills, Ohio, attended Duke University, received a bachelor of arts degree in economics from St. Francis College and continued his studies at West Virginia University.
While at St. Francis College in Loretto, he was a member of Tau Kappa Epsilon fraternity and captain of the debating team. While there, he met Mary Ann Cornyn, a student at Mount Aloysius College in Cresson. They were married August 11, 1962.
He is survived by his wife; two sons, Daniel F. (Amor) DiCio and David C. (Tammy) DiCio; three grandsons, David DiCio Jr., Nicholas DiCio and Dominic DiCio; two granddaughters, Chelsie DiCio and Amber Pferdekamper; and great-granddaughter, Aubrey Donaldson. Also surviving are a brother, Frank DiCio Jr.; and a sister, Claudine ( Joseph Sr.) Femani; nephews, Joseph Jr. (Janet) Femani and Christopher (Janet) Femani; and niece, Claudine (Randy) O’Connell; and numerous grand-nieces and nephews.
In 1962, he enlisted in Company B 28th Aviation Battalion, Washington. After basic training at Fort Jackson, S.C., he was stationed at Simmons Army Airfield Command at Fort Bragg, S.C. After three years, he was honorably discharged concurrent with enlistment into Pennsylvania Air National Guard 112th Fighter Group. He was honorably discharged in 1968 as a Staff Sergeant.
In the early 1960s, he was a district manager for Chrysler-Plymouth Division of Chrysler Corporation. In the mid 1960s, he was dealer/operator of DiCio-Hughes Chrysler-Plymouth, Washington. He joined General Motors in 1968; was district manager for Pontiac Motor Division from which he retired in 1996. Following retirement, he consulted for Engineering Analysis Associates of Warren, Mich. for a couple years doing product liability investigations for Chrysler, Ford and General Motors and warranty audits for Chevrolet. In 1998 he joined Sandy Corporation, Troy Mich., a division of ADP, doing announcement shows, special events and dealership training for General Motors’ Buick, Pontiac and GMC Truck Divisions until he retired from Sandy Corporation in 2009.
He especially cherished time spent with his family and attending his grandchildren’s activities. His hobbies included golf, fishing, skeet shooting, music and classic car restoration. He was a member of the National Corvette Restorers Society and Steel Town Corvette Club and was a past member/officer of the Canonsburg General Hospital Foundation Board and the Canonsburg Jaycees. In the late 1950s/early 1960s, he was a member of Local 1441 Carpenters and Joiners of America.
Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, in the Sollon Funeral and Cremation Services, LTD, 30 East College Street, Canonsburg, Phillip L. Sollon, supervisor, 724-746-1000. In the continued interest of public safety, everyone in attendance is reminded that facial coverings will be mandatory.
Departing prayers will be held in the funeral home, at 9:30 a.m. Friday, followed by a mass of Christian burial at 10 a.m. in St. Patrick Church.
Interment will be private.
