Jean T. Pence
Jean T. Pence, 96, of Washington, passed away Sunday, April 25, 2021, after a brief illness.
She was born October 1, 1924, in Washington, a daughter of the late William and Dorothy Donaldson Taggart.
She was a graduate of Washington High School and then married Wilbert Pence in 1947. They owned and operated Pence Card and Gift Shop on Main Street for 25 years. Mr. Pence died in 2003.
Jean carried an exuberance and zest for life. Whether it was working in her yard and flower beds, attending Broadway shows and Pirates games in Pittsburgh, or decorating the Church of the Covenant’s beautiful Christmas displays for many years, her artistic eye and love of life was infectious to those who knew her. Her greatest passion was music, and for 50 years she was a proud member of the choir at Church of the Covenant.
Jean leaves behind her beloved and only sibling, the Reverend Julian Taggart of Amanda, Ohio; along with several nephews and a niece.
The family would like to say a special “thank you” to Gordon and Denise Lowery for the many ways they helped and blessed Jean after her husband passed away.
Friends will be received from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., the hour of services, Wednesday, April 28, in the Church of the Covenant, 267 E. Beau Street, Washington, PA 15301, with Scott Shetter and the Reverend Dr. Daniel B. Merry officiating. Interment will follow in Forest Lawn Gardens, McMurray.
