Ruth Eleanor Hand Iams

Ruth Eleanor Hand Iams passed away Wednesday, November 24, 2021. She was born February 15, 1937, in Claysville, a daughter of Howard Hand and Elaine Kerns Hand.

She married Isaac L. Iams on August 2, 1953, and moved to the family farm where together, they raised their family.

They were dairy farmers from 1955 – 1963 and then turned to Beef Farming. She worked at H&R block and was Amwell Township Secretary / Treasurer. She loved farming and working in the garden and being outside.

She was a member of North Ten Mile Baptist Church, where she served as organist for over 40 years, and was a Sunday school teacher as well as a member of the Mission Circle.

She belonged to the Washington County Cattleman’s Association, Daughters of Rebekah, Amity Grange and upon its closure joined Chestnut Ridge Grange, Amwell Township Historical Society, Antique Automotive Club of America where they enjoyed driving around in their 1919 Model T and 1936 Ford in Parades and to church on Sundays.

She along with Ike worked with Washington County Tourism to establish the Washington-Greene County Covered Bridge Festival. They were in charge of the Hughes Bridge in Amwell Township for over 35 years.

She loved her Family, genealogy, and keeping track of the family tree.

She is survived by sons, William “Bill” and wife Judy Rhodes Iams, James and wife Mary Cooke Iams, Richard Iams (Helen Wheeler); grandchildren, Clint and Nicole Myers Iams, Charity and Todd Richards, Jacob Iams, Joseph and Rosey Cantrall Iams, Contessa and the late Allen Lepley, Joshua and Kiley Friend Iams, Felecia and Arron Goodman, Drew and Rikki Insana Iams, Rachel and Tyler Spence, Steven Iams; great-grandchildren, Ethan, Emily, Claire, Lily, Jaxon, Eleanor “Nora”, Lindsey, Lena, Levi, Joey, Destiny, David, Jackson, Merrick, Gideon, Elliott, and Elyana.

Deceased in addition to her Husband, Ike; and her parents; are a son, David Iams; great-granddaughter, Riley; two brothers, William and Robert “Bobby” Hand; and a sister, Elaine Hand Bambarger.

Visitation will be held in the North Ten Mile Baptist Church from 2 to 8 p.m. Thursday, December 2, and from 10 a.m. to noon Friday, December 3. Funeral services will be held at noon with the Rev. Dr. Jeffrey Johnson officiating. Interment will follow at North Ten Mile Baptist Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to Camp Carmel in care of North Ten Mile Baptist Church, 322 Ridge Church Road, Amity, PA 15311.
