Margaret L. Batson
Margaret L. “Peg” Batson, 82, of Washington, died Tuesday, November 30, 2021, in Washington Hospital. She was born April 7, 1939, in Washington.
Peg worked a number of service jobs before going to work for the Washington Women’s shelter. She retired from the shelter as a counselor, however she would tell you she ran the shelter for many years.
Peg will be remembered as a mother who was very involved in her children’s lives. She served as homeroom mother, cheerleading advisor, and girl scout leader. She was incredibly proud of helping the early growth of TWIST Softball, and serving as one of their first female coaches. She was also an active member of Elks Lodge #776 B.P.O.E, Washington.
She had a quick wit and a great sense of humor. She was well known in the community and will be missed by many.
On June 7, 1950, in Illinois, she married the love of her life, Ronald R. Batson, who died January 15, 1990.
Surviving are a son, Richard (Kimberly) Batson, of Washington; four daughters, Roni L. (Fred) Batson, of Washington, Robin L. Batson, of Oaklyn, N.J., Renea L. (Brian) Lacock, of Washington, and Richelle R. (Michael) Batson-Walker; a brother, Robert (Denise) Lee, Anchorage, Alaska; a sister, Mona (Dennis) Tokarcik, of Morgantown, W.Va.; seven grandchildren, Ryan, Kyle, Peyton, Luke, Leah, Mackenzie, and Lilly; nine great-grandchildren, R.J., Kirra, Xander, Abby, Morgan, Kyle, Kamryn, Nathaniel, and Love; and several nieces and nephews.
Deceased, in addition to her husband, is her sister, Barbara Roberts.
