Mary M. Bobnar

Mary M. Bobnar, 92, of Monongahela (Valley Inn), died Tuesday, December 7, 2021, in Country Meadows of South Hills, Bridgeville. She was born July 1, 1929, in Monongahela, a daughter of James Harold and Ella Roberta Loadman Prentice Sr.

Mary was a graduate of Monongahela High School, Class of 1947. She was employed as a telephone operator at Bell Telephone Company in Charleroi until its closing and then went to Pittsburgh and worked for several more years at Bell Telephone. She attended Allegheny County Community College, where she enrolled and educated herself by taking computer classes. Mary retired as a telephone operator from Black Box Corporation in Lawrence.

She enjoyed crafts, crocheting, and canning fruits and vegetables grown from her husband, Gene’s garden. She was very proud of her homemade apple sauce. Mary also took pride in being a caretaker of the elderly and babysitting.

She is survived by three daughters, Sharon Becker and husband Ken of Lebanon, N.J., Janis Skarbowski and husband Stephen of Quakertown, Marla Slesinger and husband Joel of McKees Rocks; four grandchildren, Alyssa Becker, Matthew and Courtney Slesinger, Julia Skarbowski; two brothers, Robert Prentice of Florida, George Prentice and wife Patricia of Dayton; sister, Martha Withers of Mercer; several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Eugene “Gene” William Bobnar, who died August 20, 2011; and two brothers, James and Thomas Prentice.

Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, December 10, in the Frye Funeral Home, Inc., 427 West Main Street, Monongahela, where services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, December 11, with the Rev. Mark Woomer officiating. Interment will follow in the Monongahela Cemetery.

The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to Country Meadows and Bridges Hospice for the tender loving care that was given to their mother.
