Gretta Dopudja Gillispie
Gretta Dopudja Gillispie, 90, of Southview, died Thursday, December 9, 2021, in the home of her daughter.
She was born August 17, 1931, in Canonsburg, daughter of the late John and Edna Grimm Spencer.
She was a member of Venice Presbyterian Church, where she was a former Deacon & Elder, Cecil American Legion Auxiliary, TWIGS 14, and was a Canonsburg Hospital Volunteer.
She worked for Blue Star Chip Co., RCA, and Ft. Cherry School District, in the cafeteria.
Through the years she was a demonstrator for AVON, Queensway, and Beeline, and was a nanny to many. She enjoyed cooking and baking, was known for her nut rolls and lady locks.
Gretta loved traveling, bowling, dancing Polka’s and spending time with family and friends.
Surviving are her son, Mark (Roberta, ‘Bobbi’) Dopudja of Cecil Township; daughters, LuAnn (Howard) Russell of Canonsburg, and Paula (Randy) Cross of Southview; and Larry Joe Owens, of Aliquippa, a nephew who she raised like her own son; grandchildren, Marko (Elise) Dopudja of South Park, Champagne Dopudja of Cecil Township, Tiffany (Jeff) Goddard of McDonald, Randy Cross, Jr. of Southview, Heather (Doug) Kotar of Southview, Mark (Tiffany) Russell of Canonsburg, Jordan (Dana) Russell of Canonsburg; great-grandchildren, Yaszmin, Douglas, Ellionna, Malyna, Luke, Leyton, Kolson, Cameron, Jelena, and Lacey; sister, Lois Crawford of Houston; and several nieces & nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; first husband, Marko Dopudja, second husband, Huey Gillispie; brothers, Robert Spencer, and Albert Hendal; her sisters, Goldie Spencer, Bertha Crothers, Marie Scarfo, and Jean Owens.
Friends will be received from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, December 14, 2021, at Coleman-Taylor Funeral Services, 3378 Millers Run Road, Cecil, and additional viewing at the Venice Presbyterian Church, 3694 Millers Run Road, from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., the time of the funeral service, on Wednesday, December 15, with Pastor David Perry officiating.
Interment will follow in the Venice Cemetery.
