Wallace E. Murphy, 84, of Mount Morris, died at 4:12 p.m. on Monday, December 13, 2021, at home.
He was born Thursday, September 30, 1937, in Mt. Morris, a son of the late Lorenzie Johnson Murphy and Lucille Virginia Lee Murphy.
Mr. Murphy was a member of Miracle Mission in Mt. Morris.
He was a veteran, having served in the US Navy. He was also a member of the Boys Club of America, where he coached Little League Sports for several years.
Wallace was a member of the Brick Layers Union Local #6 in Colorado. He worked as a brick layer and carpenter, retiring in 1994. He was also the coordinator for the Whiteley-Perry Food Bank.
With his brother Max, they won the Grand National in Drag Racing in 1969.
His wife, Monteen Kennedy Murphy, whom he married, on November 27, 1955, survives. Also surviving are one daughter, Rhonda Underhill, of Littleton, Colo., three sons, Chris (Hannah) Murphy, of Mt. Morris, David (Heidi) Murphy, of Littleton, Colo., and Randall “Jack” (Laura) Murphy, of Monroe, La.; nine grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren; one sister: Shirley Gilmer, of Galax, Va.; and several nieces and nephews.
Deceased are one son, Chuck Gilmer; and several brothers and sisters.
Friends will be received from 2 to 4 p.m. and from 6 to 8 p.m. on Monday, December 20, 2021, in Milliken and Throckmorton FH, Inc. Daryl L. Throckmorton, Owner/Director, 324 Mt. Morris Road, P. O. Box 478 Mount Morris.
There will be additional visitation from 10 to 11 a.m., the time of service, Tuesday, December 21, at the Mt. Morris Gospel Tabernacle Assembly of God, 103 School Road, Mt. Morris, with Pastor Joseph Adams and Pastor Raymond Morris officiating.
Burial will be in Cedar Grove Cemetery, Mt. Morris.
