Kathleen Mae Campbell Larkin Populo, of Washington, was called home to be with the Lord on Christmas Day, Saturday, December 25, 2021.

Kathleen was born in Jeannette, on December 21, 1957, to the late John Lawrence Campbell and Mildred Mae Campbell. She graduated from Penn-Trafford High in Harrison City, class of 1976.

She married Richard Larkin in 1978, before raising three boys on her own. Kathleen married Dan Populo in 2002.

Kathleen worked at Southwestern Pennsylvania Human Services, Inc. (SPHS), for the ACT program for the last eight years in Washington, and was a strong mental health advocate.

Prior to that she worked at the Giant Eagle store in Washington for 18 years. Kathleen enjoyed selling Avon and made many friends through her Avon business.

Kathleen was a kind, thoughtful, and loving person. Kathleen loved the Lord and was a devout Christian. She was a long time member of the Washington First Church of the Nazarene. She also enjoyed volunteering at the Christian Outreach in Washington.

Kathleen walked everywhere making many friends along the way who affectionately referred to her as “The Mayor of Washington.”

Kathleen enjoyed her uncle Kenny and brother Keith’s visits, which they did weekly for fifteen years. Kathleen loved her two cats, Tommy and Tigger.

She crocheted over 100 baby blankets for friends and family through the years.

Because of her relationship with our Lord Jesus Christ, Kathleen spread the Word of the Lord through her poetry and most importantly by the way she lived her life always thinking of others before herself.

Her best friends included Jan, Geo, Judy, Annette, Barb, Jim and Dee, Joe and JoAnne, Lori, Esther, Mark, Andy, and Dan from work.

Kathleen had a very loving relationship with her sister, Betty Ann and husband Doug, and brothers, John and Keith. Kathleen loved visiting her family in Tennessee including her uncle Kelso and cousins Liesel and Eric and their families. She loved her aunt and cousins in Fla.

Kathleen was beloved by her three sons, Jason (Zahra) Larkin, of Florida, Daniel (Kim) Larkin and granddaughter, of California, and son Richard Larkin, of Tennessee. Kathleen had a special bond with nieces, Tiffany Burkett and Kim Lubash, and nephew, John Campbell. She adored their families. Kathleen also had two step-daughters, Nicole and Shari, and their children that she loved dearly.

Kathleen’s sons describe her as having a rebellious yet kind soul, curious disposition and always having a twinkle in her eye. She was the definition of grit; she was proud, stubborn, strong but kind, with a big heart, and persistent.

Raising three children on her own, she was the glue of their family, maintaining a strong faith, and instilling a work ethic that inspired her boys to achieve three undergraduate degrees and two post-graduate degrees. She was most proud of her “three wonderful sons”, but the joy she showed toward the end of her life when she became a grandmother is immeasurable. They loved their mom and will always carry her in their hearts.

Along with her parents, Kathleen is preceded in death by her husband, Dan Populo; uncles, Kelso, Kenny, Bill, and Paul; and aunts, Dorothy and Delvia.

Kathleen will be laid to rest at Woodlawn Cemetery, on Denmark Manor Road in Export, alongside her parents and other family members.

Arrangements are being made by Leo M. Bacha Funeral Home, Inc. in Greensburg.

There will be a private graveside service.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to multiple myeloma research at www.themmrf.org/get-involved/ways-to-donate/
