Charles R. Cornell

Charles R. “Buster” Cornell, 94, of Houston, passed away Saturday, January 30, 2021.

He was born November 16, 1926 in Houston a son of the late Charles and Elizabeth Rose Cornell.

Buster was a graduate of Chartiers High School.

He was a veteran of World War II, serving with the US Army in the Asiatic Pacific Theater.

Buster was employed as a truck driver for Suwak Trucking for 26 years, retiring in 1988.

Mr. Cornell was a member of the American Legion Post #902 in Houston.

He enjoyed farming and horses in particular.

Left to cherish his memory are his children, Michael Cornell (Alenka) of Bolingbrook, Ill., Sheryl Cornell-Knapper of Canonsburg, Wray Cornell (Melissa) and Guy Cornell (Tricia) both of Avella; grandchildren, Jennifer Riggs (Darren), Regina Knapper, Crystal Lightner (John), Trisha Cornell, Cassie Fitzgerald, Kristen Cornell, Christopher Cornell, Timothy Cornell and Zachary Cornell; great-grandchildren, Jazmin Kelley and Dominic and Wyatt Lightner and Brynn Vallina; and several nieces and nephews.

Deceased in addition to his parents, are a son, Wade Charles Cornell who died in infancy; and sisters, Florence Kornicnik and Lucille Dornan.

Friends will be received from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, February 3, in the McIlvaine-Speakman Funeral Home Ltd., Robert K. McIlvaine, Owner/Supervisor, 27 Cherry Avenue, Houston, PA 15342. A brief service will be held at 8 p.m. following visitation.

Interment will be private at the National Cemetery of the Alleghenies.

Masks must be worn and social distancing guidelines should be followed.
