Doris Mae Froehlich
Doris Mae Froehlich went to Heaven Tuesday, February 2, 2021.
She was born in Canonsburg January 23, 1928, the fourth out of six children, to parents Frank and Margaret Taylor.
In 1948, she married Edwin James Froehlich.
Doris is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law, Peggy and Todd Flynn, and Judy and Mike Hey; grandchildren Amanda (Kevin) Bierschenk, Brian (Mary Ann) Davis, Carolyn (Dan) Uscinski, Jennifer (Eric) Rothenberger and Abigail (Louis) Zimmer; 18 great-grandchildren; baby sister Judy Smith; and many nieces and nephews.
They raised their daughters, Peggy and Judy, in Willoughby, Ohio. In their Arrowhead community, on summer days, Dorie could be found on the beach with the kids of the neighborhood and sandwiches packed for all. Dorie worked at Eastlake Junior High as a school secretary. Students referred to her as “the sweet lady with a baby face.”
Ed built their dream home on Pymatuning Lake and they moved to Espyville in 1976. Upon the unexpected death of her husband, she moved to Washington in 1981. She worked as the assistant director at the Washington County American Cancer Society until her retirement.
Prior to beginning her battle with dementia, she put hundreds of miles on her Cannondale bike, walked five miles everyday and went on solo camping trips to her beloved Pymatuning Lake. Doris often said “I can just look at a tree and it makes me feel happy”.
Dorie was a member of the Nottingham Christian Center. Through all the decline of her dementia, when asked what she did that day her response was: “I went to church and Pastor Bill had a great sermon.”
Great thanks is given to the staff at North Strabane Rehab and Wellness Center for the care they gave Dorie during her last years.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Pittsburgh Cremation and Funeral Care.
