Richard H. Ulaky
Richard Ulaky, 67, of Strabane, passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by family, after a year-long battle with cancer, Friday, February 12, 2021.
He was the beloved husband of Shirley Sedmak Ulaky; father of Alex Ulaky; and father-in-law of Katie Chuey. He is also survived by brother, Jim and wife Hollis from Charlotte, N.C.; sister, Lea and husband Albert of Chester Springs; and brother, Mike of Moab, Utah. A brother, Dan, of Chicago, is previously deceased.
Richard was born in Braddock, October 1, 1953. As a teenager, he developed an avid interest in bodybuilding that would become a lifelong passion. He made many friends among his coworkers at Eide’s Comics and Records in the ’80s and Best Buy of North Fayette in the 2000s. He retired in 2018 and continued to pursue his interests in classic film, animation and comics.
Rick met his wife Shirley at an American Youth Hostels canoe trip in 1984. Practically every weekend for the next 37 years would find them on an adventure: hiking, cross-country skiing, snorkeling, biking, kayaking, caving, rock-climbing, or camping. They also enjoyed travel to far-flung locations such as Australia, Bermuda and Hawaii, among others.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Montour Trail Council, Rails-to-Trails or the American Cancer Society. Following cremation, a private service will be held by the family in the spring.
