Mary Lou Clutter Mohr James

Mary Lou Clutter Mohr James, 86, of Washington, passed away peacefully, Friday, January 1, 2021. Born May 2, 1934, in East Finley Township. She was a daughter of the late Wilbert and Ruth Huffman Clutter.

She graduated from Trinity High School in 1952 and worked for many years at the U.S. Department of Agriculture with Soil Conservation Services.

She married the late Donald Mohr in 1952 and they lived together in Washington for 28 years, raising their four sons, before his sudden death in 1980. Mary Lou then married the late Harry James in 1985 and relocated to Florida.

She was the loving mother of the late Michael Mohr of Arkansas, the late David (Deedra) Mohr of Arkansas, Donald (Beth) Mohr Jr. of West Finley and the late Douglas Mohr of Washington. She was the beloved grandmother of Matthew Mohr, Gregory (Araceli) Mohr, DJ (Jamie) Mohr, Heather (TJ) Gojmerac and Alexander Mohr. She was the great-grandmother of Gianna and Jocelyn Mohr and Leilani Mohr. Mary Lou was also the step-grandmother to Nicole Dixon, Vicki Alyea and the late Chuck Bowers. Also surviving is a brother-in-law, Dick Mohr; and several nieces and nephews. Deceased is a sister, Sue Clutter.

Mary Lou enjoyed tracing her family tree and joined the Washington County Chapter, Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) in 1967. In 1973 a new DAR chapter was created when Mary Lou organized the National Pike Chapter, DAR. Mary Lou was passionate about DAR’s objectives: promoting patriotism, preserving American history and educating the next generation.

Her National Society Daughters of the American Revolution (NSDAR) accomplishments included Chaplain General, National Board of Management, National Chairman of Genealogical Records, National Vice Chairman of Library Centennial, Public Relations and Lineage Research.

Mary Lou’s Pennsylvania State Society DAR (PSSDAR) accomplishments included Southwest District Director, State Chairman of Children of the American Revolution (CAR), Genealogical Records, Honor Roll, President General’s Project, Platform Conference Printing and Vice Chairman of Pages Dinner and Bus Tour Director.

Her Florida State Society DAR (FSSDAR) accomplishments included State Regent and State Vice Regent, State Historian, State Chairman of DAR Schools, JAC Correspondent Docents, State Bulletin and Florida Social.

In addition to DAR, Mary Lou was a member of the following organizations: Daughters of the American Colonists, Daughters of 1812, Colonial Dames of the XVII Century, Morris Township Historical Society, Genealogical Society of Southwestern PA, Washington County Historical Society, Washington Women’s Club, Descendants of Early Quakers and Friends of Citizens Library.

Mary Lou was a member of Jefferson Avenue United Methodist Church. She loved her family and enjoyed spending time reminiscing and telling stories of bygone days. She loved traveling, especially to Ireland and the beach.

The family would like to express deep gratitude to her caregivers at Hawthorne Woods and Gateway Hospice who took such loving care of Mary Lou.

Friends will be received from 1 to 3 and 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday in the Hummell and Jones Funeral Home, 420 Locust Avenue, Washington, Douglas M. Jones, supervisor, Dr. Lawrence K. Donovan, director, where services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, January 6. Interment will follow in Enon Baptist Church Cemetery, East Finley.
