Thomas Matthew Shimek

Thomas Matthew Shimek, Retired U.S. Air Force Master Sergeant died January 1, 2021 at Pine Pointe Hospice, Macon, Ga.

He was born February 1, 1944, near Mather, a son of the late Albert and Pansy Madonna Marshall Shimek.

Tom is survived by his wife of 50 years, Evelyn; his son, Jason (Angela); and granddaughters, Jordan Shimek (Loren Sokol), Lauren, Lindsay and Katie Walker; his brother, Don (Sharon); his sister, Alberta Balsinger; sister-in-law, Cathy Shimek; and many wonderful nieces and nephews. Tom was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Ronald Shimek of Waynesburg; and brother-in-law, Nelson Balsinger of Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio.

Tom served in Security Police in the U.S. Air Force 1964 through 1984 including 35 months in Vietnam and 6 years in Suffolk County, England. An athlete and bowler, after retiring from the Air Force, Tom began managing bowling centers for Fair Lanes, Four Seasons, Royal Z and Gold Cup Bowling and was active in the bowling business across the country. Some of Tom’s fondest memories were while serving as the SW Regional and Executive Director of the Ladies Pro Bowlers Tournament from 1989 through 1994.

In 1997, Tom and Evelyn enjoyed their forever home in Central Georgia, especially the fellowship of the local bowling family. They are grateful for the many friends who have shown them so much love. Services will be held at a later time at Andersonville National Cemetery.
