David Sumney
On Sunday, January 17, 2021, David Sumney, 91, was called home to be with his Lord and Savior after a life well lived.
He was born April 14, 1929, in Somerset Township, to Roy and Velma Morrison Sumney. David lived his entire life on the family homestead.
On April 14, 1948, he married Pauline “Polly” Miller Sumney. Before her passing August 31, 2015, they celebrated 67 years of marriage.
David was a graduate of Trinity High School. He was the oldest member of the Pigeon Creek Presbyterian Church, where he served as a trustee and an elder. He was also a member of other various committees in the church and he played on the church dart ball team for many years.
David retired after working for Equitable Gas for 35 years as a corrosion supervisor.
He enjoyed hunting and fishing and was the last surviving founding member of Camp Valley View in Potter County. He was able to make his last trip to the camp in the summer of 2020.
David and his wife enjoyed going on many trips with friends and their Friday-night card get togethers.
He is survived by two sons, David Jr. (Carol) and Scott (Beverly) Sumney; six grandchildren, Jeff (Kim), Jason (Michael Lutz), David (Holly), TJ and Grace Sumney, and Bradley Parola. He also leaves behind five great-grandchildren, Matt, Luke, Amelia, Oliver and Addilyn Sumney.
We are thankful for the many wonderful years we enjoyed with our father and grandfather.
Due to COVID-19, there will be no public visitation and the family will hold services privately.
In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully requests your consideration of memorials to the Pigeon Creek Presbyterian Cemetery, 45 Church Road, Eighty Four, PA 15330.
