Martha A. Sekura

Martha A. “Marti” Sekura, 85, of Cameron, W.Va., passed on peacefully at home, to be with her Lord Jesus, Tuesday, January 19, 2021. She was born September 23, 1935, to the late Charles and Nancy Strogish of Muse.

She was a 1953 graduate of Cecil High School and worked for several years at the Canonsburg Borough Building as a tax office secretary and in sales at S.A. Meyers Jewelers. In later years she started a small business, “Marti’s Perogies and Nutrolls” making everything from scratch, while working at the Meadowlands Holiday Inn in the housekeeping department. A Pentecostal Christian by faith, she was a longtime member, along with her three children, of the former Calvary Temple in Washington and a regular attendee at Central Assembly of God, South Canonsburg Christian Church, The Lighthouse, Belmont Christian Church and Grace Baptist Church. When her disability overtook her physically and she went into a nursing facility, she continued to fuel her faith with Bible studies and Sunday services there.

Marti enjoyed walking for health, bingo, polka dancing and loved to sing, especially to gospel music, and collected Jimmy Swaggart vinyl albums in its entirety.

Marti eventually moved to Cameron W.Va. to live with her daughter when the pandemic prevented visitors. There she spent seven months in the loving care of her daughter, Lisa A Miller, who survives, to cherish her memory. Also surviving are two sons, George M. (Rhonda) Sekura of Pittsburgh and Charles B. Sekura of Strabane; sisters, Katherine Eisenbarth, Helen (Leonard) Churilla, Nancy Wasnik, Irene (Donald) Andree and Rose (Michael) Whitco; and several devoted nieces and nephews.

Deceased is a grandson, Luis E.Torres; four brothers, John, Michael, William and Nicholas Strogish; two sisters, Mary Panchura and Anne McDonough. Also deceased are nephews, Daniel, Scott and Mark Panchura, Chester Aaron Wasnik, Michael Strogish; and niece, Irene Hesse.

The family wishes to thank Cameron Wellness Center, Amedysis Hospice, Wetzel County Home Health, CCIL and Tennant Funeral Home for their awesome care of Marti.

Psalm 30:11 “You have turned for me my mourning into dancing; you have loosened my sackcloth and clothed me with gladness.”

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, a private family visitation was held at Salandra Funeral and Cremation Services, Inc., Joseph P. Salandra LFD, owner/supervisor, 304 West Pike Street, Canonsburg, 724-745-8120.
