Mary W. Rowland
Mary W. Rowland, 95, passed away peacefully Wednesday, January 20, 2021 at Southmont/Woodside of Presbyterian Senior Care in Washington.
She was born July 16, 1925 in Big Stone Gap, Va., a daughter of the late George C. and Daisy Kantner Wagner.
She was a resident of Washington for 74 years.
On February 26, 1949, she married Walter B. Rowland, who passed away in 2003.
Mary was a graduate of DePaul Hospital School of Nursing in Norfolk, VA, a cadet student nurse, part of the U.S. Cadet Nurse Corps during WW II. She worked as a registered nurse until 1993, retiring from Washington County Health Center.
Mary is survived by her three daughters, Linda Speicher (Brian) of Johnstown, Nancy Mosser (Mike) of Morgantown, W. Va., and Susan Featherston (Dave) of Charlotte, N.C.; six grandchildren, Stacy Rosenbaum (RJ) of Clearfield, Kristen Lewis (Lorin), of Charlotte, N.C., Ryan Mosser (Alicia) of Charlotte, N.C., Kate Byford (Dave) of Potomac, Md., Emily Featherston of State College, and Nick Featherston of Charlotte, N.C., as well as by seven great-grandchildren, Zoey Rosenbaum, Kennedy Lewis, John Mosser, Elle Mosser, Mary Mosser, William Byford, and Morgan Byford.
Mary was the youngest and last of her family’s generation. She was preceded in death by her eight siblings, Eleanor Fraser, Mildred Lambert, George Wagner, Virginia McBurney, Ruth Evans, Robert Wagner, Eugene Wagner, and Dorothy Burrell.
Mary enjoyed gardening, dancing, crossword puzzles, scrabble, cards, and dartball. She was a member of Trinity Church, the American Legion Auxiliary, Arms Club, and Ladies of the Elks.
The family wishes to thank the nurses and staff at Southmont for the love and excellent care they provided to Mary during these unprecedented times.
